Trump Has Been Rigging Polls for Over a Decade

A new Truth Social post from Donald Trump has everyone talking about Trump using the FCC to rig polls in his favor. But this isn’t the first time he’s rigged the polls.

Today, Donald Trump posted the following on Truth Social:

THE FAKE POLLS USED BY OUR CROOKED MEDIA ARE OUT OF CONTROL, AND SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT IT. FCC TO THE RESCUE! President DJT

I just wanted to remind everyone that despite a renewed and public call to use the FCC to rig polls, that Trump has been rigging polls for a long time.

Back in 2019, the Wall Street Journal reported:

In early 2015, a man who runs a small technology company showed up at Trump Tower to collect $50,000 for having helped Michael Cohen, then Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, try to rig online polls in his boss’s favor before the presidential campaign.

In his Trump Organization office, Mr. Cohen surprised the man, John Gauger, by giving him both a blue Walmart bag containing between $12,000 and $13,000 in cash and, randomly, a boxing glove that Mr. Cohen said had been worn by a Brazilian mixed-martial arts fighter, Mr. Gauger said.

Five years later, I was sitting in the court’s media room for Trump’s hush money/election interference trial in Manhattan, and the smoking gun evidence was a note written by Michael Cohen to Donald Trump outlining the money he was owed. It included $130,000 for paying Stormy Daniels to keep quiet, PLUS $50,000 to Red Finch.

Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts in that case. That conviction still stands. In fact, a New York court just denied Trump’s bid to take his appeal to federal court in a desperate attempt to get it in front of his bought-and-paid-for Supreme Court.

That small poll rigging payment detail in Cohen’s note went largely unnoticed, but I remember it. So I’m not at all surprised that Donald Trump is now using the levers of power to rig polls. He’s been doing it for over a decade.
