That is not "what if". That is clearly what is going to happen.
The Democrats will not have enough senators to convict on impeachments, so Trump can continue to break the law (i.e. ignore Congress) and ignore the courts.
In fact, at the moment he is still trying not to annoy voters too much, which he wouldn't care after the elections, so his (and his people) behaviour is going to become worse after the election.
I must add that I've never thought the right wing fears or respects Democrats. It just viewed Dems as an annoyance that interfered with its glorious plans. Then D appeared on the scene with his international criminal connections to 'push' the right wing towards more ruthless, authoritarian, brutal actions. We see the results. As I predicted, the rightnwing simply decided they would steamroller Dems under a dictatorial leader and simply change the system. Having gained control over every lever of power has made Dems impotent and a nonentity in DC. I can't understand notions that Dem leaders wanna just protect their power....cause they have none. They're just has-been losers that suck at the tit of tech oligarchs.
Absolutely not play dead. Cull the deadwood politicians and inject a dynamic effective political machine. Schumer, Jeffries and established Dems aren't making the grade.

How about letting us know what you're doing to hasten the culling and injecting? Practical suggestions are useful to those of us doing the work on the ground. (I'm in MA and our primary is tomorrow so we're busy.)
That isn't going to help you unless you get more voters vote for Democrats.
For that, Democrats need to win in purple districts and states, and I don't see how what you suggest helps in this respect.

One day your a registered voter and the next your not? Who do you call, is it even safe to re register? I'm sure they have so many questions and some things to say about it!
