Kristi Noem’s obsession with torturing this man and his family is nothing short of psychopathic and sadistic.

I understand that Jesus' crucifixion was far from unique in those days of Roman rule. His personal crucifiction was just one of many hundreds in a mile long procession of crucified human beings sentenced for murder (as well as lesser crimes including political dissent, which Jesus was sentenced for). We know Trump praises dictators who will torture and jail their political opponents. What dark times we are headed for if we don't reverse this trend!

Trump and Hegseth are broadcasting videos of the incineration of fishing boats like snippets from a video game for the same reason Roman emperors staged gladiator fights. To desensitize us to their violence and distract us from their evil.

This reminds me of the crucifixion of Jesus, except the Trump regime is willing to expand it on a massive scale.

Trump calls himself the chosen one, but he will be remembered as the Pontius Pilate, or more likely the Caligula, of our age.

DavidPageYea's avatar

Nice comparisons, but I believe even Caligula wasn't as bad. The unjust murders Caligula caused occurred only to people in his immediate orbit (out of paranoia; he was insane), and were not copied by the state itself (if I remember correctly).

Pontius Pilate's juristiction was not all of Roman territory, but rather the sub-state of Judea (or whatever it was called). But yea, PP represents what Rome was willing to do throughout all its territories.

dylan's great lyric:

“in the end he won the war,

after losing every battle “

was that really an original

assemblage? as good as any lyric, ever.

DrMelville's avatar

caligula, but more boring, and fat , and more repetitive

The Romans were far more clever and subtle through their employment of Pontias than the Trump regime could ever be. Here's a rundown of the extreme subtlety of PP's machinations just to take down a single "criminal", Jesus (if you have the time to read all this):

Pontius Pilate's "argument" against Jesus was rooted in political and public order, viewing Jesus as a potential threat to Roman authority despite finding no genuine guilt in him. The primary charge was sedition, based on the claim that Jesus was a "king" and a threat to Roman rule and Caesar's taxes, especially since he was from Galilee, a region known for insurrection.

Ultimately, Pilate sentenced Jesus to death, not because he believed Jesus was guilty, but because he caved to the pressure of the Jewish crowd and religious leaders, fearing an uprising and political repercussions.

---------

Pilate's legal and political reasoning:

Initial assessment: Pilate questioned Jesus about his kingship but stated he found no guilt in him, suggesting Jesus's claims were not a direct political threat.

Religious leaders' accusations: The Jewish leadership accused Jesus of inciting the people across Judea with his teachings and presented him as a threat to the public order, which was Pilate's responsibility to maintain.

Political pressure: Pilate was under pressure from the crowd and the religious leaders, who threatened to report him to Caesar if he released Jesus, a threat he could not ignore.

Fear of uprising: Pilate was concerned about the potential for a riot, especially during the Passover festival, a time of high tension and a large number of pilgrims in Jerusalem.

The decision and aftermath

Handing over to Herod: At one point, Pilate sent Jesus to Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, because Jesus was from that region, in an attempt to avoid responsibility.

----

Yielding to the crowd: Ultimately, Pilate yielded to the pressure, symbolized by his act of washing his hands to show he was not responsible for the decision, and handed Jesus over to be crucified.

Sedition as the charge: The charge of sedition was a political one that allowed the Roman governor to execute Jesus to prevent a larger political crisis, even if the personal guilt was lacking.

She needs to add a Hannibal Lecter costume to her closet of cosplay outfits. Noem is unfit, vile and lacking in any morals.

Allison, I just saw you last night on defiance.org meeting, anyway I'm so sorry for how you have been treated by djtRUMP! He is the most disgusting and vile piece of shit alive. I hope he dies soon. I wish that would be the end of this regime but I think we have to wait until Dems win in 26 and it can be impeached. I wish I could afford to pay for your sub stack but my meager SS just doesn't allow me to.

one suggested spelling is #traitortRUmp, which kind of summarized his loyalty and behavior.

He needs to be released, then appear on The Daily Show, Colbert, etc.. And will they go through with the trial? He needs to have his day in court.

It's remarkable that it's the most powerless people who are fighting the Trump Administration - often successfully - while the rich and powerful are mostly bending the knee.

DavidPageYea's avatar

If he is sent before an honest judge, I think that the charges should be dismissed before there is even a trial. The whole thing is so obviously a sham on many levels, starting with AG Bondi's unprofessionalism of disclosing her "evidence" pretrial and in public (which is also defamation).

Tuning in from Iowa City, UNESCO City of Literature

Whoa....

Isn't Iowa right next to Indiana, a place we've recently heard so many bad things about? I googled "Iowa City, UNESCO City of Literature" expecting nothing and that your comment was just sarcasm, but it appears this statement of yours is serious and legit.

Illinois is between Indiana and Iowa. Wow...lots of states with I in that region! :)

Bolton's case has been described as similar to Gen. Patreas' case. He was convicted but didn't do jail time. We shall see how this goes. It's certainly going to cause Bolton a ton of grief and money in the coming years as his case is in no Rocket Docket.

Will we ever know WHY Kilmar Abrego was the target of this specific, intensive abuse? WHY he, a seemingly innocuous man simply living, working, raising a family in Maryland, why HE was so relentlessly, maliciously persecuted. The reason has yet to be revealed, much less explained.
