I agree. I should have been more specific. It is the "I can't believe he/they just said/did" whatever type shock I'm talking about. I think it's important to keep our eyes open, to see the horror, incompetence, cruelty, etc. for what they are. But, IMHO, the time for incredulity is behind us. Believe it. It's happening. Let's get busy.
It is important to tune the message. I'm thinking about how to pitch it. The difficulty is that saying "fascism is here" is that it sounds final and binary. It can suggest that it can't get worse and there's no point fighting. It can get worse, it needs to be fought, it can get better. Hopelessness needs to be fought.
The Department of Defense never was the Department of War. The Army was the Department of War. The National Security Act of 1947 split the Department of War into the Departments of the Air Force and the Army, the Secretaries of which became Cabinet Secretaries along with the Secretary of the Navy. The 1947 Act created the National Military Establishment and the Secretary of Defense. The National Security Act Amendment of 10 August 1949 changed the name of the National Military Establishment to the Department of Defense and removed the Cabinet status of the Secretaries of the Army, Navy and Air Force who now were under the Secretary of Defense.
Allison, the state does not collect Federal Tax money and send it to the Feds. Each individual taxpayer does that and the Feds now ding you if you owe more than a $1000 come April 15th. The individual taxpayers in Blue States can not refuse to have monies withheld from their pay or refuse to pay estimated taxes if they are not a wage earner. I think you need to rethink Soft Secession and tell us how to actually do it without being heavily fined or landing in Federal prison.
At what point do people take up arms? I don’t understand how this gets stopped without violence at this point. I’m not calling for it but at some point someone has to—the Constitution tells us to fight tyranny.
Super interesting how you say that the DNC is not Schumer, Jefferies and the corporate old guard. I have been ignoring all their pleas because I thought they were the same (and that Ken martin was the same). Where is there more about this difference?
Thanks for letting me in. I am in Ireland. A Scot. Many years ago I experienced feelings I still cannot describe when I saw British army personnel on the streets of a city in Northern Ireland. At the end of this great discussion you touched on the deteriorating health of Donald Trump. This past week a young woman posted a video on the substack home page feed pointing to a photograph of Trump with his right arm raised in such a way that his suit jacket opened up slightly and you could see a device at his waistline. She said she believed that it is an LVAD. I’ve never heard of that so I googled it learned this:
A left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is placed in the chest. It helps pump blood from the lower left heart chamber, called the left ventricle, to the rest of the body. A controller unit and battery pack are worn outside the body. (The devices are about the size of a cell phone and placed on each side of the body at the waistline). They connect to the LVAD through a small opening in the skin.
A nurse friend told me this is used for patients who are in the end stages of heart failure. It would not be surprising if this was the reason he “disappeared” for a few days.
So I believe you were correct in your conjecture that project 2025 is being put on steroids and all the culprits surrounding Trump are preparing to take over the reigns.
WE can do nothing but be alert. This president is not transparent about his health so we are left to only make guesses like this. The photo did show “something” under his jacket at the waistline but was it really an LVAD? This administration will never tell us. Perhaps it was AI. But I know I will be watching him and everyone around him through this new lens of possibility.
I appreciate you working whilst under the weather. My first thought about the speedboat with 11 passengers on it was “ I’m pretty sure cartels don’t waste the space on a tiny boat with people. They use that space for the drugs. It must’ve been a big boat.” And then I found out it was a little boat.
I don’t think there can be much doubt that those people were the cargo. They would have been relieved to have escaped Venezuela. And that possibility is really f’n hard to swallow.
