The Abrego case is part of the puzzle that allows them to deport people without a criminal conviction and under criminal law it's ILLEGAL. Yes? It is illegal but it NEEDS to be proved so in a court of law. That's what sets the bar between authoritarianism and democracy after all. No?
In regards to the pipe bomber, I wonder if the J6 blanket pardons has anything to do with this unusual move. However, attempting to mold his motives away from the MAGA movement has to play a role in the decision making.
