I signed my oath for the US Constitution 45 years ago and it HAS NOT EXPIRATION, joining the US Army, and that is one I read more often now, and I also have a several republican representatives that I don't agree with along with my democratic representatives and I have made my words to all of them how I feel so they know I have the right to vote and can agree or not agree with their choices. US Army Veteran.

A passport to vote? That’s $130 and at least a six week wait, especially during a government shutdown.

Yes.... but it will be $ well spent...

I think you need a birth certificate to get a passport so if you have that I would think that would work for voting. I understand some people aren't able to get their birth certificates

I called my Republican Congressman’s office today, and I asked the staffer whether the Congressman even supports the Constitution that he took an oath to, given the authoritarian crap the administration has been posting on social media. She said she couldn’t speak for the Congressman, but someone from the office would get back to me. What kind of a disgrace is Congressman Addison McDowell, that his staffers do not feel that they can freely assure his constituents that he supports the Constitution of the United States?!? The Constitution that he swore an oath to uphold, as I reminded her.

Maybe it’s time for the legal scholars to come to grips with the fact that the Courts cannot save us. We know who Trump is. We know what he wants. We The People are going to have to figure out a way to save ourselves.

Legal arguments are now moot! We are beyond that. This SCOTUS will perhaps occasionally squirm around and pretend to do something that seems to restrain Trump, but in the end they will let him wiggle around or barge through legal barriers.

The legal scholars MUST stop allowing the citizenry to imagine that the courts and legal arguments will save us. That will not save us. Trump will not allow us to have free and fair elections, and he will not accept any election he or the GOP lose, unless we exert the grass roots pressure to force him to heel.

As citizens of a commercial republic, our greatest power is not street protests. Street protest will merely lead to violence which will supply Trump every pretext he needs to justify his power grabs and greater emergency powers.

As citizens of a commercial republic, our greatest power is as economic actors acting in concert. We must begin to organize work stoppages and targeted boycotts of increasing frequency. We should begin by having a work stoppage one day a month. Then two days a month. Than one day a week. Then one week every month. On these “off days,” all of us who oppose Trump should stay home from work and engage in no economic activity. Do not work; do not shop; do not invest; do not sell; do not watch TV; do not shop online. At all times, we should boycott every business and institution that kowtows to Trump.

We must begin NOW to organize these work stoppages and targeted boycotts. If we want to have free and fair elections, we must begin NOW to exert our greatest power—our power as economic actors acting collectively.

The legal scholars need to decide if they are going use their platforms to lead this effort, or if they are going to continue merely to impotently document Trump’s abuses—without actually doing anything effective to stop him.

Mr. Jacob's, I agree. The people who are the best equipped to organize and/or lead these boycotts--and with whom you might share your ideas--are the 50501 movement, Indivisible.org, and MobilizeUs (among many, many others).
