Very well argued. Thank you. Certainly worth a try. ICE should not have a $75 billion slush fund and CBP shouldn’t have a $60 billion fund. I am furious at my tax dollars being used to brutalize and kill US citizens and immigrants.

A good synopsis. The 5 base demands should be non-negotiable. You negotiate on clawbacks and see how far you can push on that in the next few weeks

The 5 Murphy suggests plus some clawback would be a significant victory!

Noem and Bovino out would be awesome but the one we really want axed is Miller. A girl can dream

Ousting Miller is not a dream. It’s entirely possible. Eventually he will oust himself with his fascist ideals.

Oh, I hope you’re right! He’s the belly of the beast!

We learned today ICE will be providing security for Vance and Rubio at the Winter Olympics. So mission creep, courtesy of the congress. Probably the ICE Princess and FBI Director, too.

Allison, a tidbit: The continuing resolution funding / ICE & BPS bump up is $45B to double existing bed in refurbished buildings all going to private prison contractors. $45B is 3x Boston Central Artery Tunnel project; the largest civil infrastructure project in US history. The Big Dig took 16 years to build with thousands of workers + google quick stats of materials volumes & tonnage. Point is: $45B / beds, O&P is wildly out of whack ~ bound to be the heist of the century of public $.

I am frustrated with funding a paramilitary organization to use my tax dollars to remove our constitutional rights to protest, pursue unreasonable search and seizure and murder us. I don’t believe that politicians are going to protect us. I believe that the only way to change this is to peacefully protest. I pray that in the end they won’t shoot us all

Thanks Allison. Excellent info.

That list of 5 things does absolutely nothing. It's another stern letter.

Haven't they already shown they will break any law and lie about it afterwards? What possible repercussions could you enforce? None of those. There's no oversight and no enforcement.

Did you know murder, kidnapping, and breaking down doors without a warrant, etc., those are all already illegal? They're doing all of those now without repercussions. Take the money away, that's the only possible pain point for them. I frankly, I'm not sure they would stop even without money.

Close ICE down completely.

Clawback funds from the ICE savages.

I don’t think the list goes far enough. No masks should be stipulated too, as well as limiting use of toxic gas and restrictions on holding children. There are many others too, but the list would become unmanageable. I think ICE as it stands cannot actually be reformed. They’re too far out of control and used to operating with impunity. Legislation and talking heads are not going to change that.

I always appreciate your research and understanding on these complicated issues. Thank you for all you do!

I assume the title is rhetorical.
