We've had centuries of abuse of power, and violence from men. No matter what motive, it's always been part of our nation. The fact that we've gone backwards where women and people of color are complacent in these corruption practices baffles one. It's ignorance, naive, foolish, and for what? Power, positioning, control, money...the last fifty years has been corrosive of everything we'd created!
To me it's not baffling at all. It's the way power works. A few women, a few people of color, etc., can always be counted on to ally with the powerful. Look at the number of U.S. white women who've voted for Trump *three times*! Who also voted for Reagan and both Bushes.
As a lesbian and a feminist, I've watched for decades as straight women ally with men against the interests of women. Women are leaders in the anti-choice movement. (They've even named one of their organizations after Susan B. Anthony. It makes me sick.)
Go back to the early 20th century: women were leaders in the anti-women's-suffrage movement. One reason the women's movement is so weak these days is that too many lesbians and other "women-identified women" have been sucked into the male-dominated LGBTQ coalition or have pulled back from politics altogether.
We should have kept up the activism of Stonewall, of Rodney King, of all the oppressed and made our bs elected officials accountable to make real changes to amendments and make them law. I have either been apathetic or enraged for the last 25ish years! We should be collective with all of us minorities, but you're 💯 right that we can't always count on status quo and others marginalized in that regard. Done with moderation, done with restoration, we need real reforms (if they're even possible now or in the future)! Puppets for power and control,💲 at the top, and corrupt don't care about any of us.
