National Security Counselors has filed a FOIA on behalf of MSW Media to obtain the legal opinion from the DHS Office of General Counsel calling searches without a judicial warrant "legal."
Good luck Alison. If you need to leave, Canada would welcome you, as would Australia, where our local versions of Republicans and right wing populist whackos are in disarray and highly unlikely, for at least the next eight years, to have an electoral impact to worry anyone who is interested in the health and integrity of our democracy. Canada 🇨🇦 would be better because it would be a bit more like home and it has a government that is really standing up strong against Trump. Ours is still coming out of the denial stage of grief. So it’s not so outspoken; and we’ve got US bases plus a very politically controversial defence “deal” with Washington, courtesy of our last conservative PM. Edit: I just noticed this article from “The Guardian” on my gmail:
Hi James. I'm a U.S. based Western Bulldog fan. Do you have a Footy favorite? Best wishes to all Aussies. The majority of us who can rationally think (so that rules out the MAGA morons) hold you nearest and dearest to our hearts. After we flush this maga madness we hope you'll let us earn our way back to true friendship again. Meanwhile I'm fighting my own front here in Texas where our highest level "government" figureheads are whores who have been bought and paid for by 2 west Texas oil billionaire/white christian nationalists. So my hands are rather full at the moment. Take Care Friend!
Thanks. AFL is a great game. I grew up in NRL territory in NSW so was and still am a Dragons fan plus I m a soccer tragic and my favourite Aussie team is Newcastle Jets. UK? Definitely Liverpool. I like American Football btw. From what I read and hear, Texas is really swinging away from the Republicans, especially Latino voters? Good luck mate!
Many US citizens are glad to know that Canada and Australia would welcome them; however, many of us plan to stay here and do what we can to stop this authoritarian takeover. We want our democracy back, and we'll do what we have to do to end this horrific moment in our nation's history.
My thoughts are with you. On the positive side, this may be an opportunity for ordinary people to organise effective opposition from the ground up. People in my country could learn from that. Complacency is a major problem here.
Bravo Whistleblower. I have always thought there must be long term ICE agents who were proud of their work when it was actually tracking down criminal migrants, and who are horrified by what their job has become. Many may have quit, but some might not be able to afford to. Would YOU want ICE agent on your resume when looking for a civilian job?
Earlier, I saw "The Break Downs" report on this. A short time later, I saw an email from Joyce Vance, former United States attorney for the Northern District of Alabama. This is the final paragraph:
"This is a deeply disturbing development and one we’ll be following closely. It is such a departure from established Fourth Amendment rules that it’s perilously close to open disregard for constitutional rights."
What? "Deeply disturbing." ???
"...close to open disregard for constitutional rights." ???
I can't comment on Ms. Vance's Substack because I am not a paid subscriber, and if this is the kind of wishy washy language she uses to describe this kind of news (if true), then I never will be a paid subscriber. I know that Ms. Vance is a nice southern lady (I mean that sincerely, it isn't snark.), but this is the kind of language I expect from the NY Times. Is this "disturbing" or outrageous? Is it "close to open disregard" or is it the very definition of the violation of constitutional rights?
Ms. Vance's Substack is called "Civil Discourse." The time for civility is or politeness is long past. The time for weak language is over. I have no objection to anyone, Ms. Vance included, writing or saying "If this report is true...." But that should be followed by that most unforgiving, condemnatory language possible. Being nice is not going to defeat ICE or Trump.
I subscribe to Joyce but hadn’t read her article before I saw Allison’s. Having now read Joyce’s article, it sounded to me like she was writing based on what she read in an Associated Press article, without having read the actual ICE memo. Maybe she would use stronger words if she had read the memo to confirm what it said.

Joyce is a good legal mind, but you are correct, she always equivocates, & softens her outrage & opinions. It is just her style, likely from being a part of the “normal” legal infrastructure for so many years. I think it’s difficult for those who were a part of that norm, to come to grips with the fact that those norms are gone.
Like now? The USA doesn’t seem to be able to do anything. I’m thinking an empowered international group of law enforcers could pull it off, and quickly too.
That is not going to happen - EVER. Stop daydreaming about an outside savior; absolutely no one is going up against the U.S. military. This is a shit show of our own making, & we have to start shoveling the shit out before it buries us. We have to start doing real organizing, starting at the block or neighborhood level, & work outward to encompass a town/city. We will need to be creative & use sabotage, obstruction, & delay tactics that do not involve face to face confrontation with the armed goon squad. If we truly want to win this war, I strongly suggest you & everyone else go to the Substack “Your Weirdo Friend” & start watching her recorded livestreams. She presents concrete plans, roadmaps, of things we can do. Don’t confine yourself to only the most recent ones, scroll down & watch ones from months ago, they are all valid. She provides the place to find “Checklist To End Tyranny,” & reads it with discussions on how to use it.
We have to stop waiting on Congress, or our Govenors, or your city mayor to Do Something - they aren’t going to; it’s we who have to Do Something. This is not going to be fixed in November, so we have to get prepared for the long fight.
Who is daydreaming? I’m not. I completely understand the reality, but I’m not American and I don’t live in America; my interest and involvement comes from having American family and friends. As an outsider looking in I’m not deluded. The resistance has to take place on different fronts. The actions you outline are absolutely vital within the country; self respect and self determination demands them. Despite the rhetorical interpretation of polls, despite the crimes and human rights violations committed against The People throughout the whole of the past year, Trump’s regime is still supported by upwards of a third of Americans. I doubt those people will change their opinions or join the resistance. Indeed the fight will be long, hard and bloody. My idea (not my own actually) sounds far fetched, but it’s a practical possibility that skilled international outsiders are making plans to carry out something decisive anyway because of the threat to worldwide stability.
Sorry, I just am getting so frustrated with everyone who does live here, calling out for Congress to “Do something” or expecting the military to swoop in & save us. All of us who love our country & love democracy, just have to realize that we have to start right now building parallel systems of support for ourselves & our communities; & learn better ways of delaying, disorienting, & obstructing these lawless goons.
You have nothing to be sorry for, and I understand what you’re proposing and agree with you. I’m supporting you all the way and doing whatever I can to raise awareness here amongst friends, neighbours, Members of Parliament and government Ministers. This last weekend in Minneapolis has been horrendous and I stand in solidarity with you and everyone fighting against the current regime, trying to maintain American democracy.
Thanks for acting on this immediately. Can someone submit an action so this stops now, instead of months from now. An emergency action? Everything this administration does is illegal and they do it anyway.
I’m sure that democracy fighters like Marc Elias, Norm Eisen, & others have already jumped in with filings for an injunction to stop this. The district courts will likely issue the emergency injunction, which DHS will immediately appeal to a higher court; or they will immediately try to leapfrog over those & go crying to their corrupt 6 at scotus to reverse that injunction. We’ve seen this play out so many times over the past 12 months, we can predict it.
Our United States Constitution is being replaced by whatever changes this tyrannical administration wants to make. Independent media along with the majority of Americans see what they are doing. Allison is one of many patriots who are shining light on these devious tyrants. A huge Thank you to Allison and everyone at MSW.
Thank you Allison Gill! So important. ICE is committing many, many crimes against US citizens as well as non-citizens.
Yay, Allison. Not just a talking head, but a real, live seeker of justice and accountability. I applaud you!
That is awesome! I saw this a few hours ago...
You're on 🔥 we love to see it !

There are likely tons of us wishing to leave the US.

Most excellent, Allison! Thank you 😊

Folliwing up on my comment yesterday - tonight Joyce wrote exclusively about this issue. It was a much stronger rebuke of the ICE policy. It was clear this time that she had read the ICE memo and the whistleblower complaint. https://joycevance.substack.com/p/breaking-the-fourth-amendment?utm_campaign=posts-open-in-app&triedRedirect=true
