The people behind the Charlie's Murderers website have been forced to change domains and hosting after a hacker corrupted the reporting tool

Last Thursday - a day after the school shooting at UVU that resulted in Charlie Kirk’s death, Wired Magazine reported: Far-right influencers and violent extremists are posting identifying details about people they view as celebrating or glorifying the murder of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. The campaign has been swift and widespread and has already led to at least one person losing their job and others receiving death threats.

The people posting the identifying information include Chaya Raichik, who runs the hugely influential, hate-filled LibsofTikTok account on X, Trump-whisperer Laura Loomer, and former Proud Boy leader Enrique Tarrio.

A central hub of this activity is a website called Charlie’s Murderers, which was registered in the early evening on the day Kirk was shot and is revealing certain personal information, such as social media usernames and email addresses, of individuals the operators believe were celebrating the horrific murder.

I received dozens of messages of concern, and one from a systems security expert over the weekend who told me about a plot by hackers to bait the website creators in an effort to tank the site. They spoke on the condition of anonymity.

“Because of the way the Charlie’s Murderers website allows submissions, they allow the data to be quickly and easily poisoned. Some of their decisions around infrastructure indicate a disordered, piecemeal approach. It has the feel of a college level canvassing team, but way darker because they’re essentially painting targets on the backs of ideological opponents.”

According to the source, his goal wasn’t necessarily to just take down the site, but to hack in and be noticed so they would circle the wagons - because by doing so, they’d trip the booby trap that would choke off most of the data submitted by the public. And if they failed to notice the inflection point, they’d realize too late that all information submitted about ideological opponents would be too poisoned to use.

The ultimate goal, according to the source, was to force the owners of Charlie’s Murderers to stop taking submissions from the public and force them into requiring logins, permissions, and moderators - a trust system that can be further exploited.

The gambit worked. This morning, the Charlie’s Murderers website has been taken offline. They have changed domain names and hosting. It’s now the “Charlie Kirk Data Foundation.”
